Ulla Pirttijärvi & Ulda is a modern Sami music band formed by yoik artist Ulla Pirttijärvi in 2009. We are going to hear traditional but also her own yoik compositions. The music tells stories about northern nature and the concert is build the way that instruments will leave a beautiful space for a unique form of cultural expression, yoik.
The concert starts with a surprise, when the Northern Sámi pupils and students from Ivalo Primary School conquer the stage. The music and dance performances are full of joy and young talents. Avvila nieiddat, a girl band from Ivalo, performs songs of their idol Mari Boine and Idjaráidalas dance group presents Kuovssakasah dance. Kuovssakasah is a Inari Sámi word and it means the Northern Lights.
