For the first time, the Charms of Arctic Auroras festival offers a wide variety of events in Inari-Saariselkä tourism region from Kiilopää to Nuorgam on November 17-26, 2017. Everyone is able to choose their favorite events from themes: culture, learning and nature experience. Events are organized by companies in the region.
INARI-SAARISELKÄ AREA – TOP PLACES TO WITNESS THE AURORAS
Inari-Saariselkä area is one of the top places on Earth to witness the Auroras. Locating some 250 km above the Arctic Circle, Inari positions right under the Aurora oval. For this reason, it is possible to see Aurora display almost every evening from autumn until late winter, providing that it is dark and the sky is clear. On average, the Auroras can be seen in northernmost Lapland up to 200 nights a year. Sounds quite amazing, right?
LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES
Scientifically talking this typical phenomenon of the polar region occurs when the electrically charged particles form the sun enter the Earth’s atmosphere. But there is so much more than just science in it. For the locals, the Auroras have been a source of inspiration, mythology and legends for centuries. For the visitors witnessing the Auroras can be a life changing experience. Some even get hooked and never get enough of the blazing colors in the sky.
