The Sompio Nature Reserve was named after the historical Sámi village of Sompio. The nature reserve is located to the south of the Raututunturi fell near the Lokka reservoir. Reindeer herding forms a significant part of the local economy and is a prominent feature of the nature reserve’s landscape. The Sompio Nature Reserve offers trekkers a wealth of unique nature experiences. The tallest peaks of the nature reserve are Terävä-Nattanen culminating at 544 metres and Pyhä-Nattanen at 508 metres in height. At the Sompio Nature Reserve, visitors can enjoy a lovely day trip to the peak of Pyhä-Nattanen or embark on a longer trek.
